This is a glowing article in a magazine that Donald Trump has consistently praised – except for one issue. The magazine's cover photo, he stated, ""could be the worst ever".
Time magazine's tribute to Donald Trump's part in brokering a truce for Gaza, featured on its November 10 cover, was paired with a photograph of the president taken from below and with the sun positioned behind him.
The result, the president asserts, is ""terrible".
"Time Magazine wrote a relatively good story about me, but the image may be the lowest quality in history", Trump wrote on his social media platform.
“My hair was obscured, and then there was an object above my head that seemed like a floating crown, but extremely small. Truly strange! I have never liked being captured from low angles, but this is a awful image, and it should be denounced. What is their goal, and why?”
The president has expressed obvious his ambition to feature on Time magazine's front page and achieved this multiple times in the past year. The preoccupation has extended to the president's resorts – previously, the editors demanded to remove fake issues exhibited in some of his properties.
This issue's photograph was taken by a photographer for Bloomberg at the White House on October 5.
Its angle was unflattering to his chin and neck area – an opening that the governor of California Gavin Newsom seized, with his communications team sharing an altered image with the offending area blurred.
{The hostages from Israel detained in Gaza have been freed under the first phase of Trump's ceasefire agreement, together with a release of Palestinian detainees. This agreement might turn into a signature achievement of his next term, and it may represent a key shift for the region.
Meanwhile, a defense of the president’s appearance has been offered by a surprising origin: the director of information at Moscow's diplomatic office intervened to criticise the "self-incriminating" image choice.
"It’s astonishing: a photo exposes those who selected it than about the individual pictured. Only disturbed individuals, people filled with spite and animosity –perhaps even perverts – could have selected such an image", the official wrote on her social channel.
"And given the complimentary photos of President Biden that the periodical featured on the front, notwithstanding his health issues, the story is simply self-incriminating for the publication", she added.
The explanation for the president's inquiries – why did they choose this, and why? – may be something to do with artistically representing a impression of strength says Carly Earl, a media professional.
The image itself technically is good," she says. "They picked this image because they wanted Trump to look impressive. Looking up at a person gives a sense of their majesty and the president's visage actually looks thoughtful and almost a bit ethereal. It's uncommon you see images of the president in such a serene moment – the image has a softness to it."
His hair appears to “disappear” because the light from behind has overexposed that part of the image, producing a glowing aura, she explains. Although the feature's heading marries well with Trump’s expression in the image, "you can’t always please the subject matter."
Few people appreciate being captured from low angles, and while all of the artistic aspects of the image are quite powerful, the aesthetics are not complimentary."
The publication contacted the magazine for a statement.
