Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
