Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete

The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and were in communication with the league office.

The organization did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Posted on Social Media

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete directly, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.

Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File

No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles

The receiver missed the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
