A Heap of Anime Updates Dropped During the Festive Season

The Christmas holidays provide a wealth of pastimes much better than catching up on the headlines: opening presents, indulging in delicious food, and harnessing patience techniques to not yelling at relatives. It is wished you succeeded in enjoy all these things and more. That said, the showbiz industry doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting news items came out over the festive period, and should you missed some of them, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (Come 2027)

Truly the most shocking piece of news, the widely-criticized troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter further production. Season 3 will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have called it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which is seen as a good sign. But, the main art for the second cour is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This makes me think that, at this point, they must be teasing the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a standing for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it first appeared in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series proved it still retained the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now fans are overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Has a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the best-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English release, but the anime has been running for years, and season 6 was yet another stellar entry. It turns out that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will probably air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

Another studio renowned for the excellent quality of its productions, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my must-watch list.

Tougen Anki Will Return With a Season Two

Immediately following the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific release date has not yet been announced.
